Rolls-Royce has introduced the Spectre Lunaflair, a unique commission created for a private client in the United States. This one-off model is highlighted by a special holographic paint finish, designed to replicate the effect of a lunar halo, an optical phenomenon where light passes through ice crystals in cirrus clouds to create a technicolor ring around the moon.
The development of the Lunaflair paint took over a year to complete. The process involved extensive testing of paint chemistry, application timings, and base coats. The final result consists of seven layers of lacquer, including a pearlescent coat infused with fine flakes of magnesium fluoride and aluminum. This results in a metallic effect that transitions into a rainbow-like technicolor appearance under bright sunlight.
The client drew inspiration from the Phantom Syntopia, another bespoke Rolls-Royce vehicle introduced in 2023, which features a dark, iridescent finish. Impressed by its appearance, the client requested a similar light and luminous finish, with a specific focus on the lunar halo concept.
The Spectre Lunaflair features an interior with Navy Blue, White, and Peony Pink tones, which are intended to reflect the colors seen during a lunar halo. These colors are applied throughout the vehicle’s seats, doors, Starlight Headliner, and even extend to the dual-tone steering wheel, which has a Navy outer and Arctic White inner side.
Rolls-Royce emphasizes that the Spectre Lunaflair is a one-of-a-kind vehicle, and the Lunaflair paint will remain exclusive to the commissioning client.
Photographs of the Spectre Lunaflair were taken in the United States on September 17th, coinciding with a Supermoon event, which added a unique backdrop for this particular vehicle.
